Four Medals of Honor have been given over the years to New Orleans Archbishop Philip M. Hannan; Chalmette National Historical Park Superintendent and Historian Lionel Bievenue, Jr.;
Msgr. Henry C. Bezou, Superintendent of Catholic Schools in New Orleans druring desegregation; and a renowed local historian and the first TV cartoon editorialist, John Churchill Chase. Bienvenue, Chase and Bezou are deceased but all had Revolutionary War ancestors. Retired Archbishop Hannan recently celebrated his 95th birthday.
