The General William Carroll Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution was organized December 22, 1934, in the home of Mrs. R.V. Reeves, its first regent, in Oak Grove, Louisiana. The chapter was named for General William Carroll who was a distinguished general of the Battle of New Orleans, Governor of Tennessee, and a relative of Charles Carroll of Carrollton for whom our parish was named.

Samuel Hawley served in the American Revolution in Massachusetts and was discharged in New York in 1784. He was born circa 1758, died 4 June 1835, and is buried in West Carroll Parish, Louisiana. The chapter plans to place a bronze marker in his memory at the base of the city's flag where other veterans are remembered.
