
The name Kisatchie was chosen by the charter members because of the chapter's proximity to the great national forest by that name, pictured at right. It recalls the time when the land was covered with majestic virgin pine trees, the same trees which provided early settlers with logs for houses and barns and, even today, the area's forests provide the basis for lumber and timber economies of this area.
The date of November 3, 1975, was selected for the organizational meeting and was held at the Beauregard War Memorial Civic Center.
CHAPTER HIGHLIGHTS:
Members display 225+ American flags at Beauregard Cemetery six times each year.
Members celebrate Constitution Week, September 17 - 23 of each year, with the "Ringing of Bells."2001 Korean War medal presentation ceremony and luncheon for Korean War Veterans and their families, attended by over 200 people.
2002 Senator James D. Cain was awarded the DAR Conservation Medal for his work in conserving the state's water resources.
2006 Chapter honored the area WWII Veterans. General Barbero of Ft. Polk was the guest speaker. Joanna Hauser, Regent, presented over 350 certificates to veterans or family members in honor of their service to their country.
