Metairie-Ridge Chapter, founded April 24, 1936, is the third oldest DAR chapter in New Orleans, Louisiana. The name "Metairie Ridge" was selected because it represents a geographically historic ridge formed by Mississippi River overflow into Bayou Metairie, now a suburb of New Orleans situated in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana.
In 1949, members of the chapter arranged to purchase the historic Beauregard House on Chartres St. in New Orleans with the intent of restoring it for the LSDAR Headquarters. This house was once the home of General P.G.T. Beauregard. After WWII, Frances Parkinson Keyes, a New Orleans authoress, purchased the house and established a foundation for its preservation. Our chapter's gavel was made from wood taken from this house during its restoration.
Metairie-Ridge Chapter welcomed the merger with Bayou St. John Chapter in May of 1991. Chapter members voted to identify the chapter with the name of Metairie-Ridge and the number of Bayou St. John.

Bayou St. John Chapter was organized on October 16, 1957 by Mrs. W.I. Fornof and domiciled in Kenner, Louisiana. The first chapter meeting took place on December 8, 1957.
Bayou St. John Chapter members were proud to dedicate themselves to working together to promote Patriotism, Education, and the celebration of Historical Events. Significant chapter milestones include the Americanism Award to Lane Carson; member Katherine Kehl made and presented a quilt to Destrehan Plantation with the history of the Plantation worked in the design!
