Kathleen Stagg, Chapter Regent

Kathleen StaggOpelousas Chapter was organized on George Washington's birthday, February 22, 1951, at the home of charter member Miss Adele Lawler, and the presiding officer was Mrs. J.N. Pharr, State Regent, from New Iberia, Louisiana. The charter was the 32nd DAR unit chartered in Louisiana and the first to be organized in seven years.

The chapter name was taken from the City of Opelousas, seat of St. Landry Parish, site of the chapter's origin and home of the majority of its members.

The poste of Opelousas was established around 1720 with military support and became a travelers' stopping point between Natchitoches and New Orleans. The inhabitants lived peacefully with the Native Americans in the area.

St. Landry Parish has it all: fascinating history, world famous music, great food, and warm, welcoming people.
