The name Oushola (O-sho-la) was that of a beautiful, demure, virtuous, golden-throated singer of the Choctaw Indian Tribe who lived within our "Florida Parishes" in the days when the white man discovered the beauty and riches of this land. The Florida Parishes of Louisiana stretch from the Mississippi state line on its eastern and northern borders, to the Mississippi River on its western border, and Lake Pontchartrain on its southern border. Washington Parish, where the town of Franklinton is located, is in the most northeasterly part of the Florida Parishes.

The initial meeting of Oushola Chapter was held July 14, 1954, at a luncheon in Bogalusa, Louisiana. Miss Texana Cater, was the organizing regent.
