"Built about 1715 by request of Saint Denis to halt the Spanish expansion eastward. Natchitoches Indians, allies of the French, gave their name to the city."
The Louisiana State Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, presented the town of Natchitoches with two bronze historical markers in November of 1934. One was placed at the entrance of the American Cemetery marking the site of Ft. St. Jean Baptist; and the other at the corner of Front and Church streets, marking the site of the tomb of Louis Jachreau St. Denis.
